Our Convertible Sadie Crossbody is made with a traditional huipil from the village of Xela, Guatemala, set in full-grain leather. The striking colors and intricate pattern of the textile body was originally created on a back-strap loom by a female weaver in Guatemala. This huipil has been upcyled, as it was previously worn by an indigenous woman and is in vintage condition.
This bag was crafted by our artisan partner in Guatemala City, Guatemala, in his growing workshop. Your purchase supports our sustainable project to provide dignified job opportunities to indigenous artisans in Guatemala.

More about the leather:
Maya & Mali bags are crafted using sustainable and when available, upcyled leather. We are conscious to source from leather providers that have sustainable practices and view leather as a byproduct of the meat industry. This prevents future waste and utilizes all parts of the animal. When available Maya & Mali also sources unused leather hides from overstocked warehouses, allowing for greater color and texture versatility.
